Abstract

The paper examines how the concept of market is used in the Russian press since the beginning of 1990s, and how the use of this concept has changed. In a modern society the mass media has an increasing influence on people’s picture of the world. The concept of market is in the core of the process of modernization of Russia, especially the economic aspect of modernization. This research project focuses on the role of newspaper language in modernization process. We argue that the change in newspaper language reflects the change in society. People and states change the world by words, and this is why the use of words is of great significance. Material for the research consists of media texts.
